Everyone in Mortimer’s family has always been wizards. His great-grandfather was once the Celadonian Royal Sage. His parents are noted alchemists. Throughout his childhood, Mortimer studied his spellbooks and practiced his cantrips. But to unending frustration, his mightiest efforts could only produce the faintest sparks of magic.
Mortimer magical powers blossomed just six weeks ago. Overnight, he surpassed all of his classmages and siblings. Once the object of pity and mockery, he is now the object of admiration and jealousy. His brand of magic needs no books or study. He quickly abandoned his ‘useless’ teachers and classmates. Striking out on his own, he adventures to find his own way in the wide world.
A little innocent megalomania never hurt anyone [important], right?
Mortimer’s parents are indeed alive. His father, Archibald Mortimer, is an aging gent who has retired from public service as Regent of the Moonbow Academy of the Eldritch Arts, where Mortimer and most of his siblings attended. Mortimer’s sudden departure has undoubtedly strained their relationship.
Mortimer’s mother, Henrietta Mortimer, owns and operates a quaint neighborhood apothecary in the relatively poor district where she grew up. Henrietta is Archibald’s second wife. Mortimer is still her little boy. She has always been a refuge to him from Archibald’s high expectations. Happiness is the greatest gift she can give to her children.
Henrietta is a Mama Bear in disguise.
There were definitely incidents at school and at home. They were disruptive but nonlethal.
